From Stuck to Limitless
Shift That Mindset, Baby
Let’s get real: the first step is shaking up your mindset. We all have stories of lack—whether it’s not enough money, time, or skills. But trust me, that’s bullshit. You can do this. It’s all about preparation. You’re not leaping into the unknown; you’re strategically plotting your escape.
First thing’s first: assess where you’re at right now. What’s holding you back? Your job? Your ties? Your doubts? Write it down, look at it, and let’s start breaking down those barriers.
Be brave dear one, you’re about to have the time of your fucking life!
Being a Gay Digital Nomad is Easy and Affordable:
Living a location free lifestyle as a LGBTQ+ Digital Nomad is really so simple! All you need is good internet, a laptop and the nerve to make it happen. And here’s the truth bomb: traveling can be way cheaper than staying put.
I’ll show you how to keep your wallet happy with tips on budget travel and financial hacks that make roaming the world a steal, not a splurge.
To give you a real-life example, while living it up in Buenos Aires, I was renting an apartment next to the stunning China Town (hello, daily noodle feasts!) for just $550 a month. Seriously, back in the U.S., you can’t even cover a car bill for that price. and with this lifestyle, no car is needed!
Transitioning to Remote Work
Building a Nomad-Compatible Career
Remote jobs are the golden ticket to your nomad dreams and thank Covid (never thought I’d be saying that!) because now there are more remote jobs than ever! I’ll guide you through finding gigs that let you work from anywhere—whether it’s teaching your passions, graphic design or building communities online. Check out my Blog on How to Work Online as a Queer Digital Nomad –> Here.
Creating Your Own Queer Empire
Feel like running your own show? Hell yes! Start a blog, launch a side hustle, or freelance your way around the world. You’ve got the power to build your queer empire while sipping cocktails on the beach.
Legal and Administrative Considerations
Handling Your Money and Taxes
Money might feel like a huge barrier, but I’ve got you! In reality, all you need is a bank and debit card with no international transaction fees and a tad bit of research on your location to see how to take out cash or pay for things like rent. These days you can pay for just about everything with a card, so don’t sweat the small stuff!
As far as Taxes go, if you are just dipping your toes into a country for a few months on a Tourist visa, there is nothing you need to do! You continue paying your taxes in your home country and it’s like you are on an extended vacation. If instead you plan to stay a while on a Digital Nomad Visa or Residency permit, I recommend joining some online expat communities and speaking to a local lawyer to determine fees and taxes for where you plan to call home for a while.
Visas and Keeping It Legal
Stay on top of your visa game with a rundown of what you’ll need to keep bouncing from one paradise to another without getting booted out. The Digital Nomad visa is becoming increasingly popular these days and don’t require a whole lot to get accepted or you can go the extended tourist method which I teach you how to do, step-by-step in the membership!
Choosing Your First Destination
Finding Your Perfect Starting Point
Choosing where to kick off your gay nomadic life is like picking the perfect dildo — there’s a bit of art to it. Consider the cost of living, internet speed, and yes, the fun factor! I’ll help you pinpoint destinations that tick all your boxes.
- Here are some things to consider:
- Cost of living
- Internet reliability
- Nomad/expat and LGBTQ+ community
- Access to places nearby for day trips or fun activities
- Proximity to another country for border crossings every 3-6 month if traveling on a tourist visa
- Timezone considerations of your remote job
- Safety
- Open mindedness of the people if you are LGBTQ+, female or POC
- Ability to communicate with locals
Get into YouTube travel vlogs, gay nomad blogs, and community groups to soak up all that juicy first-hand info. That is how you will start manifesting this reality for you. Every time you envision yourself in that location, you give a heartbeat to your dream.
Traveling Ethically and Responsibly
This isn’t just about you. It’s about making positive waves in the places you visit. There is a dark side to everything in life, travel included! For starters, tourism has always pushed out locals from the hippest places. Hotels and expensive coffee shops eat up beachfronts and glorious spots like a virus.
Now, short term rentals are the new gentrification so as you travel the globe, you will contribute to this and unfortunately there is no way around this however we should look at the positives and minuses and continue having these conversations to solve these issues.
By traveling and bringing your currency, you can also contribute in powerful ways to local economies and communities, some of them dependent on travel and tourism so be aware of your place and make the intention here and now to be a force for positive change as much as you can! Respect local cultures, contribute positively, and travel like a fucking pro.
